FlatWire Ceiling Installation FAQ

Is professional installation required for a ceiling installation of FlatWire Ready products?
A definite "No." Both contractors and do-it-yourselfers can install the FlatWire Ready wiring and interconnect devices with basic redecorating techniques and a minimal understanding of wiring.

Is there a chance that the wire could fall off of my ceiling over time?
FlatWire has as much chance of falling off as the drywall tape that is currently on your ceiling. It is not anticipated that either will ever come off. Drywall is installed on your ceiling in sections. Your ceiling thus has lines all over it where the drywall pieces fit together. Drywall tape is run along these to cover them up, and then the texture or paint is put over it to make it one single surface. FlatWire installed with adhesive and drywall compound will stay up indefinitely. It is just as likely to fall off as having all of the drywall tape fall off of your ceiling.

Can I have a length of wire go along the ceiling and down the wall?
But of course. FlatWire can be bent and creased to go in any direction. Just as you can easily make 90 degree bends and turns on a wall or a ceiling, you can crease the wire and adhere it on a bended area to go from the ceiling down the wall.

Can you install FlatWire Ready products over a textured ceiling?
Yes – and they will still be unnoticeable. For example, if installing FlatWire Ready products on a textured ceiling, the first step is to use a special tool to clear a path through the textured surface. Next, attach the wire along the path using one of the two types of adhesive. Finally purchase a textured ceiling repair kit and apply to cover the wire’s path. When complete, the installation will be unnoticeable.
